A Message to Southside High School Students and Parents
Dear SHS Parents and Students,
We are pleased to present you with the Southside High School Program of Studies. With the implementation of the Future Ready Core Curriculum, students have access to a wide assortment of unique learning experiences that are designed to challenge and help students to be successful in today’s local and global economies.
The SHS Program of Studies has been prepared to assist you, the student and parent, in making serious decisions regarding the high school courses that will support your endeavors after high school graduation. It is the responsibility of parents, teachers, school counselors and administrators to provide valuable input on the course choices that you make. Graduation requirements and plans for after high school should be taken into consideration while planning your four years here at SHS. It is vital that parents, students, and counselors begin to have meaningful conversations regarding students’ plans for the future. It is our goal to make sure that all SHS students have an intentional plan to follow as they navigate their four years at Southside High School.
Thank you,
Justin Holt
Principal

Course Registration Guidelines
In the registration process, a student enrolls in courses for the upcoming school year. Those courses should include required core subjects (math, science, social studies, and English) as well as electives. Southside High School offers block scheduling: four (4) classes in the fall semester and four (4) classes in the spring semester. Students can earn eight credits per school year. Beaufort County Schools requires a total of 28 credits for high school graduation.
Please note that students must select alternate courses when registering for electives in case their first choice is not available. Course registration will take place in early spring of every year, including rising 9th graders at S. W. Snowden and Chocowinity Middle Schools.
