Career and College Promise offers North Carolina students a clear path to success in college or in a career. The program is free to all students who maintain a “B” average and meet other eligibility requirements. Through a partnership of the NC Department of Public Instruction, the NC Community College System, the University of North Carolina System and many independent colleges and universities, North Carolina is helping eligible students to begin earning college credit at a community college campus at no cost to them or their families.
*Southside High School students participate in Career and College Promise through Beaufort County Community College (BCCC).
*Students will choose one or more pathways to assist them in reaching their goals.
College Transfer Pathway—This is the chosen pathway for students who wish to transfer to a university; however, they can choose the Career and Technical Pathway to explore at the same time (see the pathway eligibility requirements below).
Career Technical Education Pathway—This is the chosen pathway for students who want to earn credits towards an entry level job (seeking employment after completion; a student may concurrently enroll in two CTE pathways of study (ex. Welding and Automotive) (see the pathway eligibility requirements below).

To begin this process, see your high school counselor to complete the initial paperwork. The high school principal’s signature is required for students to enroll. If you have college related questions feel free to contact the Director of High School Programs for BCCC:

-Must be a high school junior or senior
-Have an unweighted 2.8 GPA
-Completed CCP application
-Meet with/discuss course options with BCCC College Liaison AND the student's school counselor
Career/Technical Education Pathway Requirements:
-Be a high school junior or senior
-Have an unweighted 2.8 GPA or have a recommendation GPA waiver of the high school principal or his/her designee
Dual Enrollment Classes
The following BCCC courses will satisfy high school graduation requirements:
English III: a combination of ENG 111, 112, & 231 or 232
English IV: a combination of ENG 111, 112, & 241, or 242 (therefore students who take English 3 & 4 requirements at BCCC will take 4 courses)
Math 4: MAT 171, 143, or 152
Physical Science: a combination of CHM 151 & 152 OR a combination of PHY 151 & 152 OR PHY 251 & 252
Biology: Bio 111 & 112 & completion of Bio EOC
Chemistry: CHM 151 & 152
World History: HIS 111 & 112
American History: HIS 131 & 132
Spanish 1: SPA 111
Spanish 2: SPA 112
All other BCCC courses allow students to receive high school credits but are counted as electives*
*ACA 122 is an exception- students receive college credit but no high school credit is awarded)
Common BCCC elective courses within the college transfer pathway include: Art Appreciation (Art 111), College Transfer Success (ACA 122), Intro to Sociology (SOC 210), Public Speaking (COM 231), and General Psychology (PSY 150). Please note the following additional requirements/policies for enrolling in BCCC courses:
- If a student fails a BCCC class, they will not be able to take another class unit the next school year without the approval of the principal.
- BCCC books are to be returned at the end of each semester. Students who fail to return books will not be issued the new semester’s books until the previous semester’s books are returned.
- Effective Fall 2020: Beaufort County Schools students may drop one BCCC course during their BCS career with no penalty including, but not limited to, drops by BCCC instructors. Documentation of this drop must be maintained at the school and provided to the BCS textbook contact. Following the free drop, students will be required to reimburse Beaufort County Schools for all textbooks, course codes, and other course related expenses. Students will not receive textbooks, course codes, or other supplies for the next semester until all dues are paid in full.
Example: Student drops class in 11th grade with no penalty. Student drops another class in 12th grade with a penalty. - Effective Spring 2021: If the initial BCCC application and related paperwork is not submitted on or before the first day of the semester, a student will not be eligible to participate in any BCCC coursework during that semester, even if the specific courses do not start until later in the semester. If pathway change paperwork is not submitted on or before the first day of the semester, a student will not be eligible to participate in any BCCC coursework towards the new pathway / program of study during that semester, even if the specific courses do not start until later in the semester.
